Glutathione
Glutathione (GSH) is known as the bodies "master antioxidant." GSH is a peptide composed of three amino acids: cysteine, glutamic acid, and glycine. This molecule is produced in all of our body's cells. Its purpose is to neutralize oxidative stress, grow new DNA/RNA, and detoxify substances that harm the body.
Glutathione is needed for phase II detoxification of the following molecules:
-
Heavy metals,
-
Mold exposure
-
Estrogen metabolites
-
Herbicides/pesticides
-
Solvents
-
Endocrine disruptors; phthalates, BPA, fragrances,
Glutathione is used in treatment of many conditions and to support healthy aging. It has broad benefit because of its effects on supporting the immune system and cellular health.
Conditions GSH used to treat:
-
anxiety
-
low immune function
-
cardiovascular disease
-
endocrine disorders
-
dementia / neurological conditions
-
aging
-
cancer
-
post-high intensity exercise
-
skin conditions, acne
-
many more..
Can I take glutathione orally? not if you want it to be very effective. Our digestive system breaks down peptides into single amino acids. There are plenty of supplements on the market that attempt at defeating the digestive process, but the best/quickest way to increase glutathione levels is IV therapy.
The immediate effects of glutathione therapy are different for each person. Some patients say they gain energy and a sense of calmness after an IV. Other report mild symptoms of detoxification including mild headache and/or tiredness.
